Hustle culture has taken the internet by storm over the past several years. There is an ongoing conversation about adding more to your plate, expanding your reach, and furthering your career are the baselines for success. These things hold a place in our personal growth and development, but there is also something to be said about taking some time to slow down.

Self-care involves diving deep within yourself to identify what you need to thrive. Sometimes that may look like tackling a large to-do list or taking action on a project you've been interested in, but other times it involves stepping back and allowing yourself to take a pamper night.

When your needs are taken care of and your wellness has been prioritized, you can show up bigger and better to tackle your goals, your to-do list, and attend to those around you. But this may feel easier said than done when life is busy. That's where the at-home pamper night comes into play.

At-home pamper nights have been my go-to throughout the busiest seasons of my adulthood when it's harder to find the time to get out of the house. They allow you to elevate your space by making them feel more special and relaxing. Here is my formula for creating the perfect at-home, spa-like pamper night.

1. PLAY SOME RELAXING MUSIC

The environment sets the tone of the evening, and for me, that starts with music. I like to play soft music that emulates the feeling of being in a spa. Search Spotify, Apple Music, or even YouTube to find music that makes you feel calm and relaxed.

2. FOCUS ON LIGHTING

Bright lights and overhead lights can feel harsh and overwhelming, so the next essential element is to focus on softening the lights. Using candles, dimmers, and salt lamps is often a great foundation, and things such as table lamps and diffusers may elevate things even further. Focus on what you have available to you, and get creative when needed.

3. HAVE A BATH

One of my favourite things to do is to have a long, hot bath. To kick it up a notch, add in your favourite bath luxuries. Whether it's Epsom salts, a bath bomb, bubbles, or flower petals, add in what you love/what you have available. It turns something that may be more generic or basic into a more luxurious experience.

4. PUT ON LOTION

Hydrated skin is happy skin, so when you get out of the bath, make sure you put on lotion! Putting lotion on feels luxurious, and it helps to protect your skin.

5. DO SOMETHING THAT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD

Paint your nails, put on a face mask, watch a movie, read a book - give yourself an activity that makes you feel good. Focus on creating a positive, uplifting experience that focuses on how amazing of a human being you are.

6. ENJOY A SPECIAL TREAT

Finally, it’s not a pamper night without a special treat, so grab your favourite tasty snack. Life is to enjoy, and delicious food is to be eaten guilt-free.
