20 Ways To Live A Simpler Life
With technology attached to our hips, constant communication, and an endless supply of information, it’s almost hard to imagine a simpler time. A time when we had to wait until Monday morning to find out what folks did on the weekend or when someone couldn't answer our call if they weren't home. This new age of technology has created endless opportunities: whether it’s the ability to work from home or connect with friends and loved ones from any corner of the world, we can work, live, and connect in ways that were once unimaginable.

But as fantastic as technology really is, there is something to be said about living a simpler life. To me, living a simpler life does not mean forgoing the niceties and conveniences technology offers us, but rather, prioritizing slowing down from the hecticness of life, de-stressing, and zoning in on your needs.
20 Ways To Live A Simpler Life
1. SPENDING TIME IN NATURE
Being out in nature, whether for a weekend or a couple of minutes, can be calming, relaxing, and help us de-stress.
2. PRIORITIZING BELLY LAUGHS AND FUN
I’m talking about pure bliss. The times when you find yourself laughing uncontrollably or having so much fun that you lose track of time.
3. SCREEN-FREE TIME
As much as I believe technology has a vital place in our lives, there is an equally vital place for it to be removed from our lives, too. Whether it’s sometime in the evening away or a whole week offline, try to find the time to put the screens away.
4. WATCHING YOUR FAMILY LAUGH
One of my favourite sounds is hearing my family laughing when we’re all together. Especially when we are seeing our adult children less, it becomes extra important to treasure the special moments together.
5. PICNIC DINNERS
Picnic dinners are one of my favourite things. Sometimes my husband and I will pack a meal, other times we’ll just pick up subs from Subway - both are equally fun and special.
6. SEEING YOUR GARDEN GROW
I’ve spoken about the benefits of gardening extensively, and that’s because it’s something very near and dear to my heart. In my opinion, gardening immediately takes us back to a simpler time.

7. RIDING YOUR BIKE/WALKING/RUNNING
Getting yourself outside and moving brings such a connection to nature and is something I highly recommend, regardless of your fitness level.
8. WATCHING THE SUNRISE OR SUNSET
Watching the sunrise in the morning fills us with inspiration and attentiveness for the day, and the sunset allows us an opportunity to reflect on the day.
9. JOURNALING YOUR THOUGHTS
I am a huge advocate for journaling. Having a space where you can write down your thoughts and formulate your opinions can help us organize the clutter in our minds.
10. WAKING UP BEFORE YOUR FAMILY
Waking up early was something I began to prioritize when my daughters were young. Having a few minutes to yourself in the morning to wake up and care for your needs can help to set your day up for success.
11. ENJOYING A QUIET CUP OF COFFEE BY CANDLELIGHT
I’ve always found candles to be very calming, and starting my day with lighting one always feels extra special (just make sure you blow it out!).
12. TAKING A MINDFUL WALK
A mindfulness walk is where you think about the things you’re grateful for, the thing important to you, or the things that make you happy.
13. DRIVING THROUGH THE COUNTRY
Afternoon country drives have become one of my favourite things. Roll down your windows, put on your favourite tunes, and enjoy the scenery away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
14. CAMPING
Whether you’re going camping or to the cottage for the weekend, there’s something very simple about getting away from regular life for a bit.
15. PRIORITIZING SELF-CARE
Self-care is all about caring for yourself, which can look like resting, eating right, moving your body in a way that feels good, spending time alone, spending time with friends, and a multitude of other things. Focus on what you really need, and make sure you’re taken care of.
16. DANCING AROUND YOUR HOME
There is something so fun, yet so simple about putting on some music and dancing around (quite literally) like no one is watching.
17. SPENDING TIME WITH LOVED ONES
Whether you’re going out for lunch or having a quiet evening together, spending time with the people you love is what life is all about.
18. SPENDING THE AFTERNOON HIKING
Go hiking: spend time in nature exploring areas you’ve never been before, and seeing the beautiful world around you (but be safe about it and stay aware of your surroundings!).
19. READING YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK
There’s nothing like reading your favourite book and losing track of time.
20. GOING TO THE FARMER’S MARKET
The farmer's market immediately takes us back to a simpler time.
