10 Ways To Enjoy The End Of Summer

There’s an old saying that says that August is the Sunday of the summer, which I think suits it perfectly. It’s when we begin to soak up the last few moments of warmer temperatures and relaxation, while we anxiously anticipate the return of regular life.

Similar to how we may find ourselves with the Sunday scary’s, we may also find ourselves fearing the end of summer and the return to reality. For many of us, things slow down in the summer, and we may find ourselves on a break from school or work, and spending more time outside. Summer can act as a break from the hustle and bustle of reality, and the transition to fall may feel a little less than ideal.

Today I wanted to share some light on this transition by offering 10 ways you can enjoy the end of summer. The idea is not to spend too much time worrying about tomorrow when today is right there in front of you. Focus on making the most out of the remaining weeks, and try not to worry about the rest until it comes your way.

10 Ways To Enjoy The End Of Summer

1. WATCH FOR FALL COLOURS

I love the variety of fall colours, and always find myself looking for them this time of year. The weather is still warm, and the days are still long, but the colours make things feel extra special.

2. HAVE A PICNIC

I’ve spoken about this in the past, but picnics are one of my favourite things, and I long for them in the warmer months. If you haven’t done so already, pack up a picnic lunch, find a quiet space outside, and enjoy!

3. VISIT THE FARMER'S MARKET

I know that the farmer’s market still runs during the winter in a lot of areas, but there’s just something special about going in the summer. Walk around, check out what’s in season, and soak up the last few minutes of summer.

4. GO TO THE BEACH

I’ve always loved an afternoon at the beach with my daughters, and when they were teenagers, it became a summer staple for us. We would pack fresh fruit, grab our bathing suits and towels, and spend the day laying in the sand or braving the water. There’s something so magical, relaxing, and rejuvenating about spending time at the beach, regardless of how old or young you are.

5. HAVE A BONFIRE

Time seems to move differently when you’re having a bonfire with your family and friends - they’re relaxing, cozy, and another summer staple for sure.

6. EAT AT A NEW PATIO

Eating outside is a summer luxury, and there’s something extra fun about going to a new patio.

7. GO CAMPING

Whether you’re backcountry camping or camping in your backyard, spend some time connecting with nature.

8. LAY OUTSIDE AND LOOK AT THE STARS

Lay outside and look at the stars. The stars remind us how big the universe is, with endless possibilities and opportunities.

9. WATCH THE SUNRISE/SUNSET

While the sun may rise later and set earlier in the winter, making it easier to see, there’s something extra special about watching it at the end of summer. Whether you watch it rise outside with your morning coffee, or set while you light a bonfire, prioritize these simple, special moments.

10. GO HIKING

Hiking is another summer staple and can be completely customized to your fitness level. A hike can look like anything from a 20-minute walk in nature, to an all-day excursion - do what works for you, and enjoy.
