10 Signs To Remind Us That Spring Is On The Way

Even as a Canadian who expects it every year, the impact can still feel quite heavy. By the time February rolls around, I think many people can agree that there can be a certain level of stress that can exist from the winter. Brushing off our cars and shovelling our driveway adds time to our morning, needing multiple layers to leave the house can feel exhausting, and starting or ending work in the dark can take a major toll on our mental and physical wellbeing.

Around this time of year, even as an adult, I always find myself searching for little signs of spring. I treat these signs as little indicators that soon the days will be longer, the weather will be warmer, and the snow will melt. Today, I wanted to share some of these with you.

If you are currently feeling completely overwhelmed by the never-ending thought of winter, I want to encourage you to focus your attention on these signs of spring. Before we know it, the air will be warm and it will be light long into the evenings.

10 Signs To Remind Us That Spring Is On The Way

1. LONGER DAYS

It may happen slowly, but it’s still happening. Instead of being dark by 5 pm, it’s getting dark at 6. Before we know it, it’ll be light far into the evening.

2. WARMER WEATHER

The thermometer is rising. The average temperatures that once were -20 are now closer to zero, and soon we’ll be outside in t-shirts.

3. FEWER LAYERS

Warmer temperatures also mean fewer layers, which is always a bonus when you're trying to get out the door!

4. BIRDS SINGING

Listen closely for the birds, they’re calling to you to let you know that spring is on its way.

5. MELTING SNOW

Watch as the snowbanks go down.

6. THE SMELL OF SPRING

The melting snow and thawing ground reveals the beautiful smell of spring.

7. PAY ATTENTION TO THE RAIN

As the weather warms up, snow turns into rain. This will help to melt the snow, and doesn’t need to be shovelled!

8. OPENING YOUR WINDOWS

I’m a big believer that we should open our windows regularly throughout the year to air it out, but as spring approaches, we’re able to air out our homes for longer!

9. MUD

Oh yes, the mud. It may mean we’re cleaning our entryways more, but it does mean that spring is on its way.

10. FLOWERS POKING UP

Before we know it, the flowers will be poking up. Keep an eye out for them.
